Our JUST DESSERTS: Do we get out of life what we DESERVE? Garbage in… garbage out? We all have friends… or know of someone… who has worked ‘so very hard’… long hours, all of their lives, and …yet, never have made any kind of a “mark” in their life… such that… they might be remembered for having done it..
They never made big money… or received the accolades that their true efforts may have warranted. But, more often than not… you can measure their “real success” by the achievements of their offspring… often doctors, lawyers, ministers, governors, inventors, and even gifted singers, etc. We all have a “special purpose” in life, but sometimes it will take a “life-time” to realize the “real mark” that we’ve made…..a legacy of achievers.
I once heard a story of a famous Evangelist, who hailed from England…and, who preached all over the world. While he may have been a ‘great preacher’… there were NEVER any significant number of people who claimed to have been saved as a result of his preaching? Although… he often felt ‘defeated’…he still continued, faithfully, in God’s work. Only after his death… did the throngs of people ‘come out’…claiming that they were ‘saved’ as a result of his preaching. It was said that 10’s of thousands lined the streets the day of his funeral. WOW! What a fine testament to this man’s spiritual calling. This man went through his entire life, never having felt that he was ‘successful’ in doing God’s work. Ah…but guess what… God knew.
On the other hand… if we really did get ‘our just dessert,’ then it could be…we would be in deep …eh…trouble.
My point…one NEVER knows the IMPACT that they are having on others… rather it is a nationally recognized evangelist; one’s local preacher… or the guy next door… ALL trying to ‘go about God’s work.’ Or, the guy who is up to ‘no-good.’ We are influenced… everyday…by those we come in contact with…both, good and evil. If you want to live ‘like the world’…and just get by…or you can live like God…and become Heavenly.
By the Grace of God, we don’t get what we deserve. Instead of death, He gives us life. When Jesus sacrificed His earthly life… He gave us eternal life. Jesus said… in John 11:25… “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.”
When we resolutely believe, and accept… Jesus as Our Savior… We refrain from giving those who hurt us deeply… their ‘just desserts.’ We refrain from giving ‘evil for evil.’ We are told in Colossians 3:13… God forgives us…through His Son…Jesus Christ. In John 10:10, Jesus said He would provide for those who love and follow Him. Thank you Dear Jesus.
