FIRST IMPRESSIONS: As a youngster might be inclined to experiment in drug use, not realizing the ‘long-term-effects’ that one might have to deal with… both ‘real and imagined.’ But the fact is… (s)he is leaving the impression among their peers, and others, that the problem is more serious than it first appears… likely labeling them a drug user…maybe for life… because of a childish indiscretion.
The same is true for business leaders. When I was in the motel/hotel business; I routinely had the opportunity to “skim cash” off the top. I NEVER did that… as it was against the law, both civilly and spiritually… and secondly, it could leave an “unwanted impression” with employees that “what the owner/boss did…they could do as well.” First impressions can leave lasting impressions… such that… could be ‘totally incorrect’ from a depth standpoint, but totally correct from a ‘surface view.’ So… we should be diligent in the area of ‘first impressions.’ The way we can ‘leave the right impression,’ and one that we could be proud of… is to leave the image of God in that impression.
It doesn’t take a PhD. in Morality to know the difference between… ‘right and wrong.’ If what we do is ‘morally right,’ than the FACE of GOD is left for all to see. If we are into something that is obviously ‘morally wrong,’ then the ‘face of satan’ is there for all to see. And believe me… one’s co-workers, peers, friends, and FAMILY… both personal and church… will see whichever FACE that we choose to represent our IMAGE.
Don’t think for a moment that our children, or grandchildren… don’t know when we’ve ‘run a red light.’ Talking about a ‘lasting impression.’ I know of a particular situation where a doctor was abusing prescription drugs, and in the process… was involved in a wreck. While waiting for the police to show up… he hid the ‘goods’ in a small rip in one of his children’s stuffed animal…. Thereby evading prosecution. His children saw, and were aware of… exactly what was taking place. Yes… a ‘lasting impression.’
We are told in Proverbs 10:23… “A fool’s fun is being bad; a wise man’s fun is being wise!” Therefor…be wise. . .have fun. . .live life the way God intended… and create that good first impression.
Again, in Proverbs 15:13, it says… “A cheerful heart brings a smile to your face; a sad heart makes it hard to get through the day.” With that idea in mind…just Smile . . . and let the face of God shine through… for all to see, and IMULATE.
