Good People vs Bad People: Can you learn good things from bad people? Or, can you learn bad things from good people? Should we stay away from people who are known to be “bad?” Who are we to co-mingle, or associate with? What did Jesus do?
Rule of Thumb: Evil begets evil. When you get in bed with a dog – you’re bound to catch fleas. Where there’s smoke… there’s fire. Bad fruit, just like good fruit…. doesn’t fall far from the tree. Back to my point.
I know of a fellow who was one of those guys who had a “sprinkled history”… of conning little ‘olé women out of their estates. I never avoided him… but neither did I seek to do business with him. He treated me with respect, and was always a perfect gentlemen. But, I knew that he was a rattlesnake at heart. I am reminded of four things from that rattle-snake. How to be the ultimate gentleman. How to be respectful. How to dress for the occasion. And, he was the ultimate in resilience. To this day…after some 40 years… his is the first Christmas card I receive. I treated him… accordingly.
I also know another fellow, who went to Church regularly, hung around with people in “high-places.” He also… was an exquisite dresser, well educated… and was well respected in the community. But underneath all of that … was a scoundrel. He stole your self-confidence, he treated his employees like dirt, and he had the vocabulary, and morals… of an alley-cat. He led two, if not…three lives.
To further my point… the devil shops at the best stores, hangs around the “movers and shakers,” will sweet-talk you into anything corrupt, will guide you down the primrose path, and will steal your soul. Further… you will find ‘him’ well represented in some of the ‘high offices’ in local, state, and national governments. So, the ol’saying… Where there’s smoke…. There’s a fire…is worth paying attention to.
Think about this…. if we’re not paying attention….‘that fire’ could be for… eternity….
One governing factor is this: How does he treat his wife, and children… and his mother-in-law? Do you…ever… see him on his knees …praying? Does he do what he asks others to do? Does he display a sense of humility? Is he of a charitable nature? If it’s YES to all of that…then, you’re probably safe (but be very careful…anyway)…. otherwise run the other way.
We are guided by… 1 Corinthians 15:33 – Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”
