LIFE AFTER RETIREMENT:
Ah…life is great; six Saturdays and one Sunday. Retirement is good for some, and not so good for others. My step-father had a heart attack within 6 months of retiring at age 65. My natural father retired from a day-to-day serious work-load, but continued to work productively everyday, and died at age 89. I, myself, went into semi-retirement at age 57…17 years ago, and have no plans of slowing up. So…what to do? Well, we could try helping others. There are many volunteer opportunities, and many others that pay minimum wages. We could help in schools, city parks, crossing guard, hospital work, library helper, church work, school bus drivers, local homeless shelters, small business advisor, gardener, prison ministries, funeral home assistant, barber, parts delivery, and much more. Why sit at home feeling sorry for ourselves, while, gaining weight, losing muscle-mass, walking and thinking slower, being a couch potato and risk losing a grip on life? While I don’t criticize retirement years, as we all work hard hoping to enjoy those years; but what I am saying is: don’t lead a life-style that accelerates poor living habits, such that one’s health and well-being is at risk.
