“If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple … So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.” (Luke 14:26-27, 33)
This Bible passage has “always” troubled me. Mostly, because I just didn’t understand it. And, I don’t profess to have a clear understanding…even now. That said…I think Jesus is simply telling His disciples, and us, that unless we’re willing to give up everything for Him…then don’t bother. He doesn’t want us to take Him for granted.
So, what does this have to do with “today’s business?” This may be a stretch on my part, but I want to draw a comparison to this biblical passage and today’s Dynamic Corporate Leader… or our high-level government officials. This passage addresses Jesus’ demand that if one wishes to follow Him; they must give up ALL to be His disciple, or follower.
Isn’t this the same thing we do in our pursuit to build a successful career? Think of the US Secretary of State; who travels all over the world trying to keep world peace; never a night in their own bed. I’m reminded of Arafat, who it was said; that he never slept in the same building two nights in a row, much less the same bed, for fear of his life. Even with that precaution…it is said…he was poisoned to death.
So it is in the Corporate Life…always on the go, always on a plane; always making major decisions. Even the Salesman… the economic soul winner…who is on the road all week GIVES his ALL… just to bring home a decent paycheck, too often, getting not getting his “just due.”
ALL “major successful” people are paying dearly for their successes… because their job and careers REQUIRE them to forsake ALL…or nothing. To varying degrees we do the same… only for some temporary success or satisfaction.
But… are we willing to make the “same sacrifice” for Our Lord, so that we might have LIFE EVERLASTING? For too many, that would be a big NO! At best…we give Him a few hours each week. Some more, some less. Are we willing to do as much for Our Lord God – Jesus Christ, as we do for the Corporate World, so that we might have LIFE EVERLASTING?
To God, we give little… yet, we expect much. In the corporate world, we give all, and get very little in return… such that provides any type of positive affect on “salvation.” We’ve lost our sense of Faith and Spiritual direction. The Reason? Simple… God has been kicked out of the Corporate Board Rooms of America. We, as a Nation, have sold our soul to satan. And, what do we get in return….everlasting damnation.
Wake up America. …Blessings….cjlb…4/9/16
