“…All of these people had great ‘gifts’ of IMAGINATION…”

20131104_073345IMAGINATION:  Imagination is a popular song with music written by Jimmy Van Heusen and the lyrics by Johnny Burke.   The song was first published in 1940.  The two best-selling versions were recorded by the orchestras of Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey in 1940.  Imagination was also recorded my many other famous singers; the most renowned being: Steve Allen, Dave Brubeck, June Christy, Petula Clark, Rosemary Clooney, Harry Connick, Jr., Bing Crosby, Doris Day, Billy Eckstine, Ella Fitzgerald, The Four Freshmen, Lionel Hampton, Dean Martin, Dinah Shore, Frank Sinatra, Kate Smith, and Fred Waring.  You may wonder why I list all of them (there’s probably another 50 who recorded it, as well.

Each of these singers had their “own rendition” of this very popular song; giving a slightly different TAKE.  I bring attention to this scenario, because we all are carriers of IMAGINATION.  If there were no imagination; then likely, we would not have had the likes of Beethoven, Alexander Graham Bell, The Wright Brothers, Henry Ford, Eli Whitney, Thomas Edison, Jonas Salk, Alexander Fleming, and of course, Bill Gates, and my favorite… Steve Jobs; and 1000’s of others.  And, probably the most famous of all…Arthur Melin and Richard Knerr, who in 1958, invented the hula-hoop.

All of these people had great “gifts” of IMAGINATION.  Not a single corporate tycoon would have made it to the top….without IMAGINATION.  You have people like, Walt Disney, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Alfred Hitchcock, Charlie Chaplin, John Huston, James Cameron, Oliver Stone, Lee Iacocca’s, Jack Welch….. All GIANTS of their industry.  Oh yeah, and don’t forget Al Gore, who “created the internet.”

Now…for myself, I used to lay in bed at night, and IMAGINE all sorts of “creations,” which ultimately, brought me to where I am today (wherever that is).  I would dream up all sorts of ideas.  Just one example: I once was a partner in a failed real estate partnership that owned a 20,000 S/F building and some surrounding properties.  We kept it for several years, going deeper in debt, and NEVER getting a positive cash flow. I laid in bed, night after night; trying to figure out how I could do, by myself, what 8 partners could not do.   With a little IMAGINATION, I ended up getting title to the property for one-dollar, and assumed the outstanding operating expenses and mortgage.  I kept the building for 23 years, and it was the starting basis of my real estate portfolio.

We ALL have the BUILT-IN capacity to do the impossible, but it takes a little bit of FOGICForesight, Optimism, Guts, IMAGINATION, and Commitment.  Each of these…FOGIC’s , are gifts from God.  They, among many others, are passed to us when God created us “in His Image.” We’re all different, with different levels of imagination, and gifts (tools); and we ALL can realize our dreams, such as God deems, simply by accepting Him as our Lord and Savior, confessing our sins, repenting, and trying our best to live according to His WORD.

Proverbs 2:7 “He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless.” Proverbs 3:1-4 “My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.”
