VALUE-ADDED: Why not give more than what they bargained for? If we don’t do more, each day, than what is expected of us; then we’re sitting still. Always give more than agreed; even if it’s just a SMILE. Throughout my “formative years,” I always worked through my lunch hour. I didn’t just sit there acting busy…. I was busy….busy “giving more” than what was bargained for. I wanted my supervision to know “what I was made of.” That tactic worked miracles for me; plus… I learned some good work habits as a result. Don’t think for a moment that Management will not recognize a “hard-worker” over those who don’t.
What, as Leaders, can we do, to ADD to the project, to the employee, the co-worker, the customer, or family member…each day… that makes them feel “more important,” or more satisfied… or happy? Do we have the “value-added” mentality?”
Do we give more than we get in return? Do we give more than what was bargained for? Do we leave a sweetener in the deal for the next guy? Two important basics that I learned, early on… is to leave enough in the deal for the buyer to feel good from the “get-go.” And, “the greedy-hog gets et.” (Or, eaten, if you will). Don’t squeeze the last bit of blood out of a turnip; as it will eventually come back to haunt you.
Remember…God not only gave us His Son; he “value-added” the crucifixion by giving us “life-ever-lasting.” John 3:16 tell us – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Was that a “deal,”…. Or what?
We are told in Acts 20:35, that – “In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
