Being a BOSS is not all that hard.  You hire, you fire, withhold, give, take, suppress, parcel, handle, balance labor, enforce policy, instigate, delegate, force, instill FEAR, and govern.   Anyone could be a BOSS.  It takes no special skill or training. A CHAIN-GANG leader is a BOSS.  Too often, a “boss” is nothing more than a “paid SOB.”  I KNOW!

A Boss can be, though not likely…. a LEADER. He might be a “lead-man.” ……like a Drill Sargent.

On the other hand… a leader can be both… boss and leader.

I’d rather be, of course, a …..LEADER. I’d rather motivate, train, guide, invigorate, delegate, help, save, inspire, and MENTOR. I like the idea of helping others to “find their place” in life; to help prepare them for the future; to guide them through the many obstacles of life; to show them the “better-way” to achieve their goals. I enjoy helping them “think through” serious issues, problems, and projects.

I like setting an EXAMPLE for them; to pull out of them the “very best,” that they likely didn’t know that they processed. I like REWARDING them for doing good…doing their BEST; to recognize their hidden talents; to develop them into “good citizens.”   ….. Much like a SCOUT-MASTER might do with his group of Scouts. I like being “part-of” their SUCCESS. I like feeling “their enjoyment,” their happiness, their sense of PRIDE when they’ve accomplished the IMPOSSIBLE.

Being a LEADER is not always a “piece of cake,” as it takes years of PREPARATION to “stand at the front of the line.”   A LEADER has to DEVELOP his own set of “skill-sets.” A “good leader” must have learned, first, how to be a “good-follower.” A good leader must EARN is right to be called…… LEADER. There are exceptions, of course.

If it was a “family dynasty,” then he might have been APPOINTED, or inherited, his position of Authority, or Leadership…. Not always EARNING it; just being the next in line. This is why many who “inherit” their positions, MUST hire a real LEADER, to do the “leading.” Some may be SMART enough to “learn from” their HIRED-LEADER, so that they can, at a point in time, become a LEADER. Such, though, is not generally the case. Most “appointed leaders,” NEVER learn how to LEAD.

Where do you fit in the “chain of command?” Are you a leader? Are you “leadership material?” Have you been appointed? Are you “prepared” for your responsibilities? Have you “earned” your merit-badges?

The Bible gives us important guidance in being a “good leader.” Titus 1:7-14 For an overseer, as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it. For there are many who are insubordinate, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision party. They must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for shameful gain what they ought not to teach. Proverbs 16-9 – The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.  John 13:13-17 – You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

Yes… I love having play a part in leading others to fulfill their promise, especially when I lead them towards God. …Blessings… cjlb…4/27/15
