Speaking of being RESPECTFUL? Are we properly Respectful to God, Our Lord Jesus Christ? Our Creator. I have come to realize… that while I thought that I was RESPECTFUL…I have discovered… that I was not.
I had an occasion to borrow a Bronze Crucifix (depicting Christ Crucified on the Cross), and had it sitting on my dining-room table for several days, before returning it. I must have passed that Crucifix, I bet, 50 times in the week that it was sitting there, and not once… not a single solitary time…did I take note of it. Such so, that when the time arrived to return it to its owner… I got about two blocks from my house, when I realized that I didn’t have it with me. Yet, it was sitting right where I had my hat (Greek sailor cap) and keys…. And I picked up my hat and keys, and left the Crucifix sitting there.
My point is this: How often do we ignore the obvious? Are we so preoccupied… with ourselves… that we don’t notice important things, events, or people, around us that DESERVE our attention. I went into a very large… Methodist Church during the Christmas season, and while there, I counted 21 different depictions of the Christian Cross all about… in different designs and forms… throughout the Church. And, then I was in a vert small Chapel, associated with a local Catholic Hospital…and there were 66 different forms of the Cross displayed throughout… reminding one of His Presence…. that they were in God’s House.
Their purpose is to bring attention to Christ, to be reminded of His having sacrificed His own Life… for ours. I had been in these particular Churches, probably, 10-12 times, and never noticed them …I had not taken the TIME… something that I have plenty of. These SYMBOLS, or reminders, of Christ, are too often… just overlooked, as they, seemingly… become BLENDED into the background. Too often, I think…we are DISRESPECTFUL of God, as evidenced by the way we conduct ourselves in God’s House… we act as if we are in a country club environment, rather than in the House of Our Lord. Or… is it just me?
We need to bring such representations of Our Lord… into the forefront…. Just as a PICTURE of our own Mother, or favorite Aunt… or other trophy’s which are hung in places of prominence, and honor. Jesus should… as well… hold a prominent place in our daily routine. Jesus should not to be subjected to a secondary… or minor role.
We are told, very clearly, in… John 15:5 – I am the vine, ye [are] the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
