JUST TOO IMPORTANT: Are you a “big-shot?” Have you gotten “to big for your britches? I know that on “to many occasions”… I have. And I admit it, and frankly… I am ashamed (well some…anyway). Success, fame, status, and too much money…. Can easily give one a “big head.”
We think we’re so important that we get too big for our pants….bound to happen. Add a little “whiskey and women,” and then things tend to really go awry. Things start out running real smooth… life is good; money is pouring in; kids are doing well…. and the wife has socially arrived. And don’t forget that “new house” with the 3.5% loan…. What more could one ask?
Then Bam-O…everything unravels; like a failed Ponzi-scheme. I’m not suggesting evil-doing; rather… it’s our “stink’n-think’n” that gets us into trouble. We start to think that we are the one who invented the wheel; and we lose focus on how we got to the top. When we become blind to the ways of the Lord, we stumble.
We are told in 2 Chronicles 16-12 – “In the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa was afflicted with a disease in his feet. Though his disease was severe, even in his illness he did not seek help from the LORD, but only from the physicians.
Rather than “turning to his Creator”, he turned to “worldly solutions.” We should FOCUS on the Lord, not worldly things. It takes a “strong constitution” to break away from the clutches of satan. It says in ….Ephesians 4:26-27 – “Do not let the sun go down while you are angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.”
We have all the power necessary to resist satan. “Do not give a foothold” is telling us that this is something within our power to control. The devil can only come as close as we allow him. James 4:7 says: “Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” Though powerful and cunning as he may be…. satan can never control our will, or force us into disobedience. While active resistance is essential, satan is not one to lay down and flee. He only flees from those who have the courage, and faith, to resist him and turn to God’s promise and power. …Blessings…10/16/15
