DISCIPLINE: We learn to deal with discipline early in life and career. We’re either on the giving end, or the receiving end; both can be “learning experiences” if we allow it. Other skills related to discipline; are Train, correct, and punish.
Awkward is the moment when we, as leaders, have to deal with disciplining an adult in a corporate setting; even when it’s necessary. Years ago, my company hired a Service Manager who cussed like a sailor, offending everyone around…on a daily basis. We received many complaints, and were also concerned how he might be dealing with customers. It became necessary to discipline this individual… several times, before he decided to resign… without notice.
Another Service Manager, in another branch… padded the shop mechanics time sheets, so that he could keep them happy on the job… rather they earned the bonus… or not. This, in effect, was stealing from the company, and he too, became a discipline matter. In this particular case, his salary was reduced, and he was eventually demoted.
Another Branch Manager refused to participate in a company-wide campaign. Knowing he would be disciplined, he resigned in anger….thinking he had management “over a barrel and he would be hired back…his tactic did not work.
We can learn more about discipline… at absolutely “no risk when reading… Titus 1:8: Be hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined.
If and when we learn to a bit of “self-discipline,” then we can avoid a lot of future heartache. Blessings…cjlb…12/7/15
