Adversity: We ALL are SUBJECT to enduring hardships… one kind or another… and, from time to time. None of us is immune. It’s akin… to death… it’s going to happen. Adversity appears in all areas of our life. Be it… business, social, family… or spiritual. For me… Adversity has been in EVERY avenue of my life. IT… NEVER goes away.
The issue, here, is…. why does it happen to us; and how do we REACT.
As to WHY? Consider this: In the Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 15:18-21. Jesus said to his disciples: “If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you. Remember the word I spoke to you, ‘No slave is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. And they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me.”
If we intend to be ‘Christ-like’… that is… to FOLLOW Jesus… then we are going to be caught up in adversity… guaranteed. Absolutely… no one will be spared.
Now, as to … how do we REACT. Consider this: Adversity should be considered as an OPPORTUNITY. Adversity will get our ATTENTION. It is a wake-up call…. A call to arms. Adversity is the ARMOR that prepares who to do battle with satan. Don’t forget… satan is not just sitting next to us in the church pew… he is in our desk drawer at work; he is lurking behind every website on our computer; and buys his cloths at the same clothing store as we do. The ‘sly O’Fox is everywhere… biting at our heals … waiting to get a ‘foot-hold’ in our life.
Good news… God, when He created us in His likeness…. Gifted us free-will. We have the POWER to say NO to satan. Adversity STRENGTHENS that power. Behind every adversity is an OPPORTUNITY to SERVE God, and your fellow-man.
God does not impose adversity because we are BAD people… rather… because He is trying to STRENGTHEN us to ‘fight off’ the snares of the devil. We CANNOT do it alone. We can do ‘it’ only through the POWER of the Holy Spirit. Living a Spirit-empowered life includes enduring adversity… hardship, pain, weakness, and loss …just as Jesus did. If we suffer while Spirit-empowered, we will grow in perfection through these adversities.
The Apostle Luke… tells us in Acts 1:8 – But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
… Many blessings as we, each… deal with our own set of adversities. …cjlb… 5/8/2018
