“…Being seen, being heard, and being ‘noticed’ is an important attribute… if we are to go about…”

Image result for caricature: Jesus in the mirror“Oh…so you think you’re so SPECIAL.” ….Have you ever thought of yourself as being, particularly… eh…eh…SPECIAL? This would be of no surprise to you…but, YES, I consider myself as being SPECIAL. Why so…READ ON….

Some years back, I worked as a consultant to a large state-franchise of an inter-national company. The President of the company took me on dealer visit, and one in particular, remembered the President’s uncle, the founder of the company, and remarked how the President reminded him of his uncle. “Mr. Smith,” said the dealer, “you remind me so much of your uncle.” The President responded… “Don’t call me Mister Smith, just call me Mr. Dummy.” I listened… in total SHOCK….wondering…what is going through this guy’s mind? How could this fellow refer to himself as “Mr. Dummy?” I scolded him for having such low self-esteem. He NEVER used the term again (around me), but his self-image did not improve.

Many years ago, I was returning a pair of slacks to a “high-end” national-retailer… wanting a cash refund, but didn’t have a receipt. The clerk called the store manager for approval. He ‘refused’…explaining that he couldn’t show me as an exception, and further, stated: “You don’t want me to treat you SPECIAL, do you?” I told him, he was mighty darn right that I did. That, if he treated other customers like ‘that’ then, he would have to treat me SPECIAL, as I was not leaving without ‘the cash.” I had been going into that store ‘for years,’ and he knew me as a long-time customer. And YES, I considered myself as SPECIAL.

If we don’t think of ourselves as SPECIAL, then who will? If we don’t carry ourselves in a “special way,” then who will notice us. If we blend into the wall…will anyone know that we’re there? If we don’t “dress for the part,” then who will see us. If we don’t “speak up,” then who will hear us?

If you don’t think of yourself as “special,” then, think about the ratio of the male sperm (40 million plus (per ejaculation)… and all are fighting to get to the one or two female eggs. That would make ‘that egg’…pretty special, it seems. If “that egg” is you, or me, then it gets even ‘more special.’

If we (that would be you…and me) are spreading the ‘word of God,’ as taught to us in Matthew 28:19-20 – Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” ….Thus, being seen, being heard, and being ‘noticed’ is an important attribute… if we are to go about God’s work.

God didn’t make us in “His own Image” so that we would feel like a dummy….He wants us to be like Him. He knows the number of hairs on our head. He has a ‘specific plan,’ for our lives. God considers each and everyone one of us to be SPECIAL…..not a dummy.

How SPECIAL do you feel?   Psalm 139:1-24 To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.

So, YES…I consider myself to be special…Thank you Lord, for ‘making me SPECIAL.’

…Blessings …cjlb…1/9/17
