“…’Brooks…you’re FIRED’ …as he hands me 3 month’s severance pay, and relieves me of the keys to my company car…”

"Do I make myself clear?"

How to know when your career is stalled? The most important, and obvious….way is when your paycheck either has bounced or stops coming. Sometimes they just quit paying. Some fifteen years ago … it happened to Johnny Carson, when Jay Leno took over his parking space a bit earlier than was anticipated. Poor Johnny, with all of his millions…went berserk.

When the phone quits ringing is always a dead give-a-way that your career is in big trouble. Sometimes, even, it quits ringing because management has removed the phone from your desk. I like the one when you discover your key doesn’t fit the lock anymore.

The one I hate is when your subordinates start calling you by your first name. Some actually continue to “go to the office,” but just don’t have anything to do, or do they get paid anymore. Others get paid…but are given no assignments, no help, and no tools… as management is hoping they’ll “just quit and go home.”

In the military… they’ll assign you to an office…no windows, no phone, no desk… but you will get a pay check, or they might let you “go to school,” but forget about “an REAL assignment,” or promotion…because you’re dead meat, and just waiting for the clock to stop.

I can remember when my own “your career is stalled” episode(s) took place… just as if it happened yesterday. 1) Your fired, pick up your check from accounting. 2) We’re having a slow-down, and we’ll call you when things pickup. 3) Report to warehouse & shipping starting Monday…as we’re downsizing your old department;  4) The CEO tells me the Board voted 6:1 to let me go.  And my FAVORITE… 5)  The CEO says… “Brooks…you’re FIRED” …as he hands me 3 month’s severance pay, and relieves me of the keys to my company car.

If you are self-employed, and want to know if your career is stalled…or OVER… all you have to do is check your bank balance. For the most part, I’ve stayed ahead of the curve…how about you? Does any of this sound familiar?

Has your “spiritual career” with God… gone into neutral…or stalled?  Or worse yet…DEAD?  We are reminded in …Exodus 22:20 – Whoever sacrifices to any god, other than the Lord alone, shall be devoted to destruction.

Have you placed “a worldly god”… ahead of Our Lord God; the Savior of all of mankind? If you have…your career could be over.  But REMEMBER… God is the Boss, and all is not lost… we can “revive” our career with God… through PRAYER, seeking His forgiveness, and repenting of our sins. …not tomorrow, next week… but NOW.
