“…But who do you say that I am….”

"....But who do YOU say that I am....?"

“….But who do YOU say that I am….?”

What’s in a name?  It depends, I think, on rather the name is a sir-name, or a title.   It seems that we Americans are more interested in our own name, then a title.  The significance of our sir-name, would come into play in terms of our reputation in the general community.  The title name plays a more significant role in the business, or professional community.  I always used to say…give me the money, and forget the title.  Eons ago, I was the Corporate Controller of a state-wide distributor, and my title, it seemed, was important, but, again, not as much as the money.  Most often the title and the money, very much, are aligned… you don’t get one without the other.  There are some companies, though, who will play a game with both.  In fact, I’m even a bit guilty of it myself.  I remember hiring an accountant some years ago, who was filling the role of Assistant Controller, but held, instead, the title of Corporate Accountant.  It was time for him to receive his annual review, and he actually told me that he would rather have the title of Assistant Corporate Controller, instead of the raise.  So, yes, I was guilty of cooperating with his wishes, and gave him the title, rather than the raise.  It was his choice.  Four or five months later, I gave him the monetary raise to go along with the title, but gave him the advice, that taking a Title in lieu of money, was like kissing himself in the mirror.  It was just for his own ego; because nobody else cared.  How important is a TITLE to you?  God told Moses in Exodus 6:7 ‘Then I will take you for My people, and I will be your God; and you shall know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.  God was claiming us as “His own.” When Jesus was on trial and was asked if He were the Messiah, He referred to this prediction in: Matthew 26:64 – It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of the power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.  This statement infuriated the religious rulers.  They accused Him of blasphemy for claiming equal authority with God.  It was clear to them that Jesus referred to Daniel’s prophecy and hence was claiming to be the Messiah.   Then in John 19:19 – And Pilate wrote a title also, and put it on the cross. And there was written, JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.  In Mark 8:29 – Jesus says in His own words: And He continued by questioning them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ.”  Jesus is asking each of us the same question: “But who do you say that I am?” …..Blessings …cjlb…10/11/14
