He’s my Hero… As young father’s, we were often thought of as hero’s to our children; and as teenager’s, our hero was (for me: John Wayne, or Jimmy Stewart) probably some “movie-star.” Then as a young adult – it may have been our boss, our father, or pastor. As adults; our father, or an older brother. As older adults – maybe an older brother, a success ridden Warren Buffet or Bill Gates.
Along the way, some may have gotten “caught-up” with certain movie stars, or a Jimmy Bakker, Lance Armstrong, or Michael Jordan. For others, it could have been Hitler, JFK, Neil Armstrong, or polygamous Warren Jeffs; or cult leaders Jimmy Jones, David Koresh, Charles Manson, or Hollywood’s Michael Moore.
And finally, if one is Blessed, then he might have discovered that Jesus Christ is also an acceptable Hero…. in fact… the “ultimate HERO.” And, for me…He is. 1 Thessalonians 4:16 – For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
CAUTION: You cannot identify a hero by his clothes; personality, actions… or physique. Hero’s come in all shapes and sizes. Remember; a Hero is someone who is “exceptional,” and is a good person; who lives by the Golden Rule, and whose follower’s will strongly identify with him… even wanting to emulate him. Among other “important attributes”…a HERO is easily identified based on how he treats his “mother-in-law.” 🙂
A HERO stands out among the masses. The “HEROS” are the victims and the families of 9/11. The “HEROS” are those who have fought and died for our Country, so that we might enjoy the FREEDOMS that America stands for….God Bless them ALL.
Such should be the case with Jesus. We should want to “emulate Him,” but be aware…when Jesus said in Matthew 10:22 – “You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved. And, in Philippians 1:29 – For to you it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake.
Most importantly….a “hero” should be “Christ-like.”
And, while I don’t deserve it, and never will… I hope, one day, my legacy will be such that I, too, will be “someone’s HERO.” …Blessings…cjlb…9.11.16
Note: I dedicate todays posting, to my late brother, Walter…who would be 78 today… And, who is still…. my “hero.”….cjlb
