PREPAREDNESS: Scout’s Motto: Be Prepared. Would you fly a plane without proper instructions and certification? Deliver a baby (unless under emergency)? Get married? Take on a career responsibility without being properly prepared.
Back to ‘getting married.” So many of us… go into that ‘life-long commitment’…O’so totally unprepared. For me…my wife was 18 and I was 19…and, this August 1st…will be 58 years. Not because we were prepared… more so, by the ‘Grace of God.’ Marriage is like a garden… it MUST be ‘worked’ every day… No days off…no days of REST. These days… there are sophisticated preparatory arrangements that are available to the engaged couples. It should be a MUST. City governments should charge $5000.00 for a marriage license…instead of $10.00…and… $25K to get a divorce permit. It would make one think.
Would you entrust you infant baby to an ‘untrained’ baby sitter? There would be a ‘lot less impropirities’… if babysitters had to undergo appropriate training, and certification. Even manicurist and hairdressers, etc. have to be certified before they can offer their services?
Some jobs requiring no training and certification are: health caregivers, security officers, psychiatric aides, occupational therapist aides, nursing and dental assistants, school bus drivers, cable TV installers… and some states have “open carry” (firearms) laws that permit anyone over age 18 to carry a firearm (unconcealed) with ‘no-prior-training’ or certification.
Do you want to be President? The Constitution cites three eligibility requirements to be president: one must be 35 years of age, a resident “within the United States” for 14 years, and a “natural born Citizen,” a term which is not defined in the Constitution.
Then there is ‘spiritual preparedness.’ While ‘training and certification’ is not required to become a Christian…indeed it would help. That said… Because of God’s eternal love for us… He has made it ‘’very easy to become a Christian.” All that one has to do… is to receive Jesus as your Savior, and fully accept His death as the sufficient sacrifice for our sins (John 3:16), and to fully trust in “Him alone”… as our Savior (John 14:6; Acts 4:12). Becoming a Christian is about having a “personal relationship with Jesus Christ… through faith.
Our ‘relationship’ with God improves as we study His word, understanding it better, and abiding by it. In Luke 12: 48, we are told…But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.
Simply meaning… as we ‘know more…more is expected of us.’ Knowing God, and His Son Jesus is a ‘long process,’ that many ministers, theologians, and other ‘Godly people’ have studied for many years of their life… yet, there is not a week that goes by that they encounter a verse… that had been read many times, but just ‘glossed over’ … then suddenly… by the Grace of God…they finally ‘discovered’ the meaning of what God intended.
The question this article is raising… Are we prepared to meet Our Maker…Our Lord God, Jesus Christ?
Many Blessings… as you seek the answer…cjlb…7/26/2017
