I am a SLAVE. …I am a slave….to family, to friends, to society, to government, and to God. But the problem is… and, too often… still is… I am a SLAVE in the W-R-O-N-G proportions… at the wrong times, for the wrong reasons….and on occasion… for the wrong people.
My life has changed over the years… such that, my priorities have changed dramatically – in that, my children are all grown adults, my financial requirements have lessened; and my material and time-needs have diminished… yet… I’ve not re-arranged my priorities, or resources, to better reflect those areas that are more in need, or deserving; especially in terms of spending more time with my wife and family. In other words…I’ve not adapted to how I’ve changed.
And, worse …my spiritual life is more in need, as I’ve routinely overlooked opportunities to strengthen my relationship with the Lord God, Jesus Christ.
While my WORK CAREER is…well…basically over… the opportunities are abound to help others hone their skills …fulfill their goals and dreams…and even strengthen their spiritual foundation. Such thoughts arise, as to rather our careers are built around God, or… are we requiring God to build around our careers?
We all have responsibilities and commitments to family, community, and to God …all, in which…increase as we mature in age, talents, and resources. The question is: to what degree are we committed, and to what boundaries are we bound? We are told in …Romans 12:6-8 – Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
Commitments are not “one-night-stands”… whether… they’re business, social, family… or spiritual…they carry “terms and conditions” …that must be honored and obeyed. Being a SLAVE for the right reasons, for the right people, in the right proportion…and, at the right time…is not slavery…it’s LOVE.
