Um…. what can we worry ourselves…sick to death….about. Let’s start with our children, then our elderly parents; or our spouse’s losing their. How about failing out of college, having to appear in Court… or the recent DUI. Maybe, we’ve run out of money before the end of the month, and haven’t yet paid the house payment, or rent, or the car payment. Possibly we are worried about the biopsy coming back POSITIVE. Maybe… we got caught in a serious LIE, or some other compromising situation that could ruin our lives, or career. There’s an ENDLESS list of possibilities… of why we could be sick to death… with worry.
But….does worry change anything? The Apostle Luke tells us in….Luke 12:22-40 – And he said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest?
As for me… I am pretty good at “not worrying, or getting depressed.” If I can CONTROL or change the outcome of something, then what’s the need in worrying…I just work at changing the outcome? And, if I cannot control the outcome, then what’s the need in worrying, because I will have no effect on the outcome…and worrying want add or subtract a fraction. Isaiah 41:10 tells us – So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
I know… A lot easier said… than done….especially when it comes to the health of a family member; but if we don’t trust in the Lord, then who do we trust in? Adversity builds strength. God is always preparing us for something… it could be tomorrow, or …..
Worrying … is giving satan a ‘foothold’ in our life!
So….Just be ready… Ephesians 2:8 clearly says – For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.
