Too often, too many of us seem to harbor resentment, anger, frustration, and hate… with one-another. WHY? If we had a good answer for that… well…we don’t. I suspect that it was passed down from the Cain and Able episode. I heard a story on one of the TV Evangelist shows where a visiting preacher was riding with a Church Deacon on their way from the airport to the Church. The VP was somewhat familiar with the area, and knew, for some reason the Elder was going way out of his way to get to the Church, whereas, a closer and direct path was passed upon. The VP respectfully inquired…”I am wondering Deacon, why you seem to be going out of your way to get to the Church facility?” The Elder responded….”Oh, that’s OK….I NEVER go the short cut, as I’d have to pass by the New Testament Church, and my Daddy, and that Preacher were bitter enemies…even though, that was 25 years ago. I wouldn’t dare pass by in front of that church.” So….there you go. A bitter anger has tormented that fellow for some 25 years…and he wasn’t even part of the event. Do we carry ANGER too far, and too long? Doesn’t ANGER add to the burden we are already carrying without adding even more weight to it? Doesn’t, being ANGERY all the time add to poor health, and a poor disposition? Doesn’t ANGER just keep on building up, even, to the point of severe health issues, maybe even divorce, or worse… some sort of criminal act? ANGER is just bad news… it’s giving satan a foothold, and possibly destroying an otherwise good relationship or friendship. The Bible addresses ANGER in very precise terms in Ephesians 4:25-27 – Therefore, laying aside falsehood, SPEAK TRUTH EACH ONE of you WITH HIS NEIGHBOR, for we are members of one another. BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT SIN; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity.Of course, ANGER generally continues until we discover that LOVE and FORGIVENESS trump ANGER. To be ANGERY, is a decision that we make ourselves… that gives satan, and the person we’re ANGERY with… power over us. Dear Lord, please forgive me of my ANGER, and replace it with LOVE and FOREGIVENESS, and make me an instrument of Your Peace, and a vessel of Your Love. ….Blessings…cjlb…9/11/14.
