When I began to enjoy some successes in my business life; someone asked me why I didn’t expand into other areas. My answer, always, was: If I can make enough money, in my own back yard, why go to someone else’s? Why make life complicated? I thought about the possibilities of expanding in other geographical locations a few times, but always returned to my original (or first impression) thought process….which is: Stay in my own back yard.
In a recent religious discussion, a new acquaintance of mine started comparing this religion with that one, and “mistakenly” misinformed the listeners about a particular religion’s view on salvation. I didn’t bother to correct him, but knew him to be 100% incorrect. I felt like telling him to “stay in his own lane.” After the meeting, as I waited silently, someone else, noted for his religious knowledge, seized the opportunity to “correct” the speaker. Lesson learned: If we stay silent, long enough, others may speak up, and maybe with more authority, and defend the truth.
Matthew – 5:11-12 – “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
REMEMBER: Even Jesus was shunned in His own home town, and there’s several Bible passages that suggest that, for Christians, persecution starts…pretty close to home.
