Who is waiting on who? I’m waiting on the right career opportunity…or is the opportunity waiting on me? I’m waiting on the right girl to come along…. Or is she waiting on me? I’m waiting on the right car to surface; or is the right car… just waiting on me? I’m waiting on the right school to offer me a scholarship… or is the right school waiting on me?
For me: I’m waiting on the right guy to come along to repair my retainer wall… or is the right contractor waiting on me to find him. Not very likely… because he doesn’t know that I exist. Nor does the school; nor does the right car; nor does the right employer, or career opportunity; nor does the “right girl.”
But… let me make this very clear. There is someone who is waiting on us. That would be… Our Lord… Jesus Christ. The table is set; the food prepared (just like we like it), the guests have arrived. The only one missing… is you… and me. O’for sure, we’ve been invited. But… we have bothered to open the invitation. We’ve ignored the invitation. We didn’t return the call. We looked the other way. We thought better of it. We are waiting on a better invitation.
God doesn’t take “NO” for an answer very well. He is very diligent…very persistent, and very demanding. He will give us, or GIFT us, with “every opportunity” to accept His invitation. But… He is not going to FORCE us to accept Him. His door is always open…it’s up to us to walk through the opening. Why? To the contrary…God has a plan for us… even though, we are too arrogant to TRUST HIM, too BLIND to see, too DEAF to hear, or too foolish to SURRENDER to it.
God gave us “free choice.” All of mankind have been given the same gift of choice…. To accept …. Or reject. Joshua 24:15 – And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that [were] on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
Remember this: We are acceptable to God, not because of what we’ve done (we could never be good enough, or do enough, to be acceptable to a perfect God), but through the crucifixion of Jesus Christ; our sins have been redeemed with the “love of Jesus Christ.” God looks down and says, “What Jesus did was acceptable, and through Him, you are now acceptable to me.” All we have to do is “accept what Christ has done for us, to confess and repent, and to submit to his will….by accepting His invitation to “life-every-lasting. The Bible tells us in Psalm 27:10 – “My father and mother may abandon me, but the Lord will take care of me.” It’s all very simple.
The fact is, however, if we FAIL to accept His invitation… before the candle goes out…it will be… just, too late. Revelation 3:20 should clear up the issue for us, when it says: – ‘Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.
