Eugene H. Merrill tells us that…Fear of God lies at the heart of successful living in the world. Wisdom literature makes it clear that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, a fear equated with the “knowledge of the Holy One” (Proverbs 9:10 ; 1:7 ; Psalm 111:10 ). To fear God is to know him and to know him is to fear him. But fear of God also produces fear of wrath and judgment in those who do not know him or who refuse to serve him. There are, thus, two sides of the fear of the Lord that which produces awe, reverence, and obedience, and that which causes one to cower in dread and terror in anticipation of his displeasure.
For me… a little bit of FEAR can’t hurt you. I admit… sometimes, I feel that I am so underserving, that I might end up in HELL…and, that scares me. But, I remind myself that Jesus died on the cross for ‘all of us’, and …I’ve repented for my sins, I continue to confess my sins, I do my best to ‘convert from bad to good,’ so…I should be ‘safe’…so what’s to FEAR?
Fear sees a roadway… as a dead-end. Faith sees a roadway as a runway to opportunity…Author. Unknown. Hebrews: 11:1 – Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
Ultimately… God is the BOSS of FEAR…but, we…that would be you and me…are ‘in-charge’ on a ‘day-to-day’ basis. Fear is a frame of mind. If you are fearful…then… ‘Change your mindset.’ That’s a CHOICE….
But, when in doubt… remember in Psalm 34:4 – I sought the Lord, and He delivered me from my all my fears.
