If we are unwilling to FORGIVE those who have TRESPASSED against us… and if we are not willing to LOVE our neighbor… as ourselves… then, we are disobeying God’s direct order… and thus; we place our SALVATION in jeopardy…. Select forgiveness is not what God is telling us.
Forgiveness has ‘no boundaries.’ Forgiveness is all encompassing. There are no exclusions …. rather, it is all inclusive. We MUST forgive ALL who have offended us, in any manner or perspective… just as we are forgiven in Heaven.
No GIVE…. no GET!
To clarify my point... take The Ten Commandments, for an example. If we have been a VICTIM, such that someone… near, dear… or far…. relative, or not…. has OFFENDED us by disobeying the Commandments… that has DIRECTLY effected us… then that would INCLUDE every type of sin…. every type of OFFENCE that is known to mankind…. bar none.
We are obligated to FORGIVE that person… to forgive EVERYONE. We are obligated to LOVE that person. No… it doesn’t mean that we have to ‘kiss tail’ … to bring them back in to the fold… to welcome them with open arms… while all that would be nice; it is not required to meet the element of forgiveness. What is required, though… is that ‘they know’ that we have forgiven them. Forgiving someone in secret… is not forgiveness.
We have to TELL that person… that we FORGIVE them.
Matthew 6:14-15 is very clear… For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Also, in Luke 17:3-4, we are told: So watch yourselves. “If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.”
And lastly…… Paul tells us in Ephesians 4:31-32 ….Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Forgiveness is not something that we do…. just on Sundays, or just between you and God, or just in the home environment… no… NO. Forgiveness is everywhere…at home, work, church, socially… and all things personal. Forgiveness and love… is universal…. ‘Seven times Seventy.’
We cannot carry grudges in our heart, and expect to stay healthy, and to enjoy eternal salvation. Love and forgiveness is the lasting antidote. Let us leave Vengeance to the Lord.
