COMPLACENCY: When we encounter serious setbacks….and when we deal with them in the appropriate manner; …we begin to make and encounter improvements along the way…then we must not…. suddenly think that all is well. Sometimes…surface improvements are not LASTING improvements.
It reminds me of the O’lady who is circling the parking lot… looking for a parking space… and calls out to God….”O’Lord, please help me find a parking space… I’ll do anything, Lord…I’ll even stop cursing.” Just then a parking space opened up…. And she added: “That’s OK God, forget it, I just found one on my own.” We FORGET so QUICKLY…. Just in moments, sometimes. 1 Corinthians 10:13 tells us…No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
Getting comfortable in our “own achievements” is a risky business. Remember that COMPLACENCY can set in, and invariably will; as there’s always danger lurking about that will shatter our accomplishments. We sometimes give o’satan a “foothold,” and then…. He doesn’t let go easily. He knows an “easy target”… when he sees one. We’re told in Ephesians 4:26-27 – “In your anger do not sin. Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.”
Often it is the fellow in the next office, or the competitor down the street, or satan himself…..all, just waiting in the wings….to kick you rear and your notable, but forgettable, achievements right out on the street. Be prepared; alert; abreast; steadfast; diligent, and remain Holy. …Blessings… cjlb…7/29/15.
