“…Her “motto in life,” was to find someone, each day, to “give her smile” to…”

Image result for caricature of Princess Diana smilingHELP….I’ve fallen and can’t get up.   Sound familiar?   As humans, and because we are made in the Image of God, we have an obligation to help our neighbor.  This means…our next door neighbor; the guy around the corner; co-workers; and yes…the BOSS; church members; the homeless; the poor; the hungry; the unemployed; and the overall downtrodden and HELPLESS; and too…..even our Enemies.  (You know…the one’s we secretly HATE).

Be alert to your surroundings, though… as one doesn’t have to be “down-trodden” to be in deep need of help.  He could be the guy sitting next to us at the morning Staff Meeting.  His daughter could be “in trouble,” or his wife could have just left him (for a younger man – no less).

The Bible does not give us a choice.  Deuteronomy 15:11For there will never cease to be poor in the land.  Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’

Note that Deuteronomy says “open wide your hand to your brother.” This doesn’t mean a “poor brother,” necessarily, as it could be “any brother” in NEED. Need of a companion, a friend, someone to talk to…someone, possibly… just to “share their life with.” It could be the guy at the bus stop…he could be having “very serious HEALTH issues,” ….maybe, even, contemplating some drastic step…. off the deep end.  We might be the “very person” that makes a difference in his life…at that important bend in the road.

A dear family friend just died on Christmas Eve, and her “motto in life,” was to find someone, each day, to “give her smile” to. She had been very sick for the last 4 or 5 years, and yet… she had a SMILE on her face throughout her ordeal…. Always SHARING it with someone…. Everyday.

Another way in which we might “be there” to help someone in NEED; is to PRAY for their NEEDS.  Prayer is just a few moments in time, yet when “talking to God,” in behalf of a “needy brother,” time is not measured.  When praying for someone… we are also giving the “gift of life” to this person in need.   Something to think about….

We tend to waste our energy looking for reasons to DENY one our help; as opposed to looking for ways to HELP someone.  One day….it could be you or me……needing the helping hand.   Have you given “your smile” to anyone lately?……Blessings……cjlb…..12/30/15
