Authoritative: I’ve said many times, and alluded many more; that it’s very important as to “how you carry yourself.” It’s how you dress, how you act, how you’re groomed, your posture, your hygiene, and how you carry yourself in an “Authoritative Manner?”
I know, as much as I liked Steve Jobs (and the like), he brought into fashion….sloppiness. And…I admit, how you dress is not NECCESSARILY an indication of how smart you are, or your level of success; as evidenced by our own Congress, and other high-government officials. They, typically, dress to the “nine’s,” but, seemingly, know absolutely…NOTHING, and do nothing.
But, here, I’m talking about the “average-guy” who is out hustling every day, trying to get ahead in life… trying to survive. The “you and me” types. Too, if I had ever had the opportunity to interview, and hire, Steve Jobs; hopefully… I would have had the sense to hire him, but I would have “hid him in a corner,” somewhere, and let him “do his thing.” OK….maybe, it’s “just me.” It makes no-difference…how you look and act plays a very important part in how successful you will become. PERIOD!
The by-products can be enormous. One who carries themselves in an “authoritative” manner; will present themselves as being: Reliable, dependable, trustworthy, verifiable, accredited, self-assured, assertive, and commanding. I’m saying, that when you walk into a room, and project “that picture,” (above described), as opposed to the “sloppy-Joe” look…. then, you will have about a 99% chance of going to the “next-step,” towards your journey to success. It is my contention… the “sloppy-Joe” will stumble on the first-step.
Here’s a case in point: How many “sloppy-Joes,” of either gender, do you see calling on medical doctors…. who are selling/promoting the latest and newest drug/cure, or medical device? The same for CPA’s, bankers, and attorneys. Even though there is a tendency for some (too many) in the field of higher-education to be “sloppy-Joes,” there would be few, if any, service providers to that industry that would dress the same. NO… they would all be coming to court their potential clients in their “best-dress” and manners.
We learn in…..1 Timothy 4:12 – Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. Leviticus 19:28 – You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord. Romans 12:1-2 – I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
For me…I’ve always liked the “Sunday-going-to-meeting-look”….… Blessings…cjlb…1/17/15
