BEING MISS-UNDERSTOOD: I am SICK and tired of being miss-understood. But I have ‘no-control’ over what people think… or not. Being ‘miss-understood’ is the STORY of my life. It started back when I was in the 5th grade in Miami, Florida. At least, that’s when I have my first memory of it. I was always having to DEFEND myself; even still… to this today. At age 78, one would think that it wouldn’t bother me…but it does. Let me say…just because someone is ‘up-in-age’ doesn’t mean they don’t have feelings.
I’ve gone full circle….from not giving a rip what people thought… to being… a little too sensitive to what they do think. Here’s the reality of it all: Human beings have a wicked tongue. WE humans… have a propensity to putting our ‘tongue in gear’… before we put our ‘brain in gear.’ To some… they enjoy belittling others, particularly those who ‘appear to be the weaker.’ I know….I’m guilty of having done it. I should know.
I’ve said things that I thought to be humorous, but to some…it was not. And, I’m thinking…. well…I didn’t mean for it to sound that way. Or, I didn’t mean it the way you took it. For some of us…those with ‘dry-wits’… we say things…thinking ourselves to be FUNNY… (Like we’re in charge of entertaining everyone)…when, in fact… we’re NOT FUNNY at all. In fact it’s HURTFUL.
There’s a lot being said these days about ‘freedom of speech.’ Sure… that’s our God-Given right….and our legislative right…to say what we want to say. But…just think a minute…. Do we have a right to hurt other people all the time….Or even some of the time? And, all the while…using HUMOR is our excuse? I don’t think so. It’s just a matter of the GOLDEN-RULE. Do we follow it? Or, do we ignore it?
Some of us feel strongly about it….others have ‘no-feeling’ what-so-ever. The fact is this: We’re going to have to ACCOUNT for every idle word we utter. The Apostle Matthew tell us in: Matthew 12:36 – “But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the Day of Judgment.” We are also told in Romans 12:18-20 – If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY,” says the Lord. “BUT IF YOUR ENEMY IS HUNGRY, FEED HIM, AND IF HE IS THIRSTY, GIVE HIM A DRINK; FOR IN SO DOING YOU WILL HEAP BURNING COALS ON HIS HEAD.”
…So there we have it….I’ve got that off my chest…and I feel better… But believe me… as for my being ‘miss-understood’ all the time… I’m leaving VENGEANCE up to the Good Lord… I’ll have no part in it.
