Personally…I think the Believer has a more difficult challenge in his pursuit of a successful career. The Non-believer has the same, basic, challenges… but he doesn’t have the fear of doing wrong to get ahead…he moves ahead at all costs, without fear of retribution…
The true Believer… because of his commitment to his fellow man, society, and to God, is more apt to be challenged along his career path ….which will cause him anguish, and un-necessary distraction from his career. A case in point is Tim Tebow. Seemingly, all of America made fun of him as to his commitment to Christ Jesus, which he displayed on the field…without shame or hesitation. The “liberal media” beat him to death because of his commitment to God.
Add these types of pressure to the normal challenges of excelling in one’s chosen field, does not lend itself to successful results. Today’s society, basically, is a “do it all, at any cost” type of mentality, regardless of the consequences.
I can think of a few instances where I made decisions “not do a certain business deal” …which cost me many thousands of dollars… yet because of my commitment to God… I chose His side of the deal. In the long-run, I came out ahead, but in the interim…I suffered.
Matthew 5:10-12 tells us in clear terms…“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven….”
The ultimate success in life…be it a career, social setting, family, or spiritual…all comes back to a central element… attaining Eternal Salvation, even at the sacrifice of your career.
