I’ve got a THANKLESS job, and no-one…”absolutely…no-one appreciates” all that I do for the company…all the sacrifices that I make for them, my family, friends, and even my church. Even my wife and children take me for granted. I get “no respect.”
Have you ever felt that way? I know that I have…and it’s not a pleasant circumstance. But, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re “really not appreciated”… it just depends on “they” couch it, and how you interpret it.
I’ve seen a lot of different techniques employed by the “powers-to-be,” to develop an individual for more responsibilities, and for a more secure and successful future. Some use… or over-use, kindness; others will push you to the brink of resignation. Some bosses want you to suffer; to pay the dues for advancement, and worse… to be indebted to them.
Personally, I take it as a personal challenge to have at least one person that I can work very close with, and spend countless hours, days and weeks developing him to enjoy the fruits of his commitment and contribution. And, I prefer, if possible, to have several more in the line-up, which I won’t devote as much time to… yet have them training as “the 2nd string.”
In the first scenario, I will be developing that individual for specific areas of responsibility. My working close with him would be paramount to his future and the welfare of the company. I will employ “strict rules of engagement,” and will leave no stone un-turned in developing that individual. I will expect him to make MANY DIFFICULT SACRIFICES that, in the long run, will enrich his opportunity. While he probably doesn’t realize the full IMPACT of all that is involved… he will find early on, that I require complete surrender. The dues are HIGH when one works in my clubhouse. But, the rewards are many and significant. And, for those who “stay the course,” they will find great joy, and career sustainment.
This is the same such scenario that Jesus puts His disciples through…when He offered them LIFE EVER LASTING…telling them in Matthew 16:24-25…Then Jesus told His disciples…. “If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
Please don’t confuse yourself with what I’m saying … I don’t contrast myself …with Jesus. What I wish to convey is…if we (you and me) “stay the course” and give up everything for Him… we too, can have life everlasting with Jesus. Jesus makes this same “promise” to all of mankind. Jesus’s calling to us is very clear, as told in… Matthew 29:19 – “Go ye therefore, teaching all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”
PS: Happy Mother’s Day, and God Bless our Mother’s for all that they do in our behalf.
