DIGGING DITCHES: Ever find yourself in a rut? I know that I have. We probably have dug that ditch ourselves… usually because we are into something that we shouldn’t be doing or that is not in our best interest. We’ve all been there, to some degree, and getting out of that ditch is not as easy as getting in… much like losing weight…fast to come…slow to go.
Typically, we have lost our focus and our commitment; and have shoved God aside. This is true in our business life, our personal lives, our social life, and even our “spiritual life.” It’s not unusual, either, to lose our focus in our “spiritual life.”
Too often…if we examine ourselves closely…we might be surprised. Are we “really there mentally?” Sure, we might be sitting in the pew, or in Sunday school… but are we “mentally participating?” Do we even really care? Are we just occupying space? Is the sermon boring? Does the Sunday school teacher come prepared to teach “properly?” Can we remember what was discussed by the time we get home?
As “wannabe” leaders… We know what will happen if we’re not paying attention at work….our job is at risk. Complacency sets in…and soon…Promotion or pay increases will be in jeopardy if we are “in the ditch” and making “no effort” to get ourselves out of the ditch.
Regardless of the venue…just remember that God is just outside the door. He is the God of Patience and Forgiveness…and Energy and Attention. Ask His forgiveness, repent, convert to good, and “that ditch” will fill soon be filled up with His Loving Grace and Mercy.
We are told in…Jeremiah 10:21 – For the shepherds have become stupid …And have not sought the LORD; Therefore they have not prospered, And all their flock is scattered.
And my favorite… Revelation 3:15-17 – ‘I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. ‘So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. ‘Because you say, “I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked,
I know all about “the ditch.” I’ve been there and done that. I’ve dug my share…sat in it…cried in it…but by the “Grace of God”…dug my way out. Psalm 51:10 – Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
