ASCENSION: This a word not often used in the Corporate World; but maybe more popular in the religious sector. Ascension is appropriate to use in terms of career advancement. As career builders, we all want to ascend to the throne, or CEO, or President, or Division Chief, etc. That’s the ultimate position of one’s career in the corporate world, and one that “every leader” aspires.
I have enjoyed some degree, while small, of leadership roles in large nationals in the corporate community; but chose to “remain local,” and secure in my own environment. I probably would have never ascended to a “seat of power,” in the mega-corporate community on my own merits, so… starting my own business; assured me of “ascension to boss-hood.”
In the Corporate Community – CEO is the most coveted, yet vulnerable, position to have in one’s career journey. Yet with just one vote, you could be out on your rear-end…. A threat…which is always lurking in the background. Ask Carly Fiorina, former CEO of Hewitt-Packard, or wanna’be Google CEO Ross Levinsohn …who was booted for being too technical, in favor of the multi-talented, and charismatic, Marisa Meyer. Even Mz. Meyer is dancing on “very thin ice.”
The most important CEO, the Alpha & Omega, the Lord of Lords…is Jesus Christ, who ascended into Heaven to be at the right side of His Father. John 14:12 – “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Hebrews 13:17 – Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.
Today’s advice: BEWARE, the advantages of ASCENSION is not… sometimes… worthy of the price one must typically pay.
