Self-esteem: In these uncertain days of such economic woe and uncertainly… it would be very understandable that one “might lack some degree of self-esteem”… especially if they’ve experienced some monetary setback. When one’s emotional evaluation of their own self-worth is being tested, involuntary, or not… the results are the same.
Projecting one’s self as being “steady at the wheel,” when they have lost their steadiness reminds me of the song of the mid 50’s….The Great Pretender. I’m suggesting that self-esteem, is not easily brought about, and consequently… should not be easily lost, or surrendered. Further suggesting… that it is not as easy to come by, say, as learning how to play the guitar.
One may develop confidence, but developing self-esteem is not that easy to come by. While “anything may be possible,” I suggest that one could have plenty of self-esteem, and not be aware of it, until it’s put under the test. The survivor has it, the other’s…well they just don’t know they have it.
There are those who think that self-esteem can be learned, developed, or, even taught. I contend that it cannot be learned or developed… much less…taught? I believe that one has procession of it, all along, but doesn’t realize that it is deeply buried… dormant, if you will. Their self-esteem has yet to surface…. But may raise its head… under pressure.
It takes self-confidence, a degree of pride, and plenty of nerve. And… if it’s there, it will surface….sooner or later… regardless of the economy…or other extenuating circumstances. If one thinks they lost their self-esteem…they didn’t. Rather… they just miss-placed it. Romans 12:3 – For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.
We all have self-esteem…but like all of the Gifts that God has assigned to us when He created each of us “in His Image”….it’s our CHOICE to use it… or lose it.
