Doing the right thing: I’ve been around the bush a few times over the last 75 years, and have found, too often….that…just because you know the right thing to do…doesn’t always mean that you follow your own good advice; or even that of your CONCERNED friends, relatives, and peers. Often times….we MUST be reminded to do the right thing…say the right thing…and be the right kind of person. That inner voice….the Holy Spirit….. Is generally, the One who is reminding us…and, if not, then our Spouse is there to do the job. And, if not your spouse, then, it will people… well, like me. I firmly believe that God will use “whatever” source that is available, or best suited.
I used to get a call, routinely, from an “old-lady friend,” who, by the Grace of God, would call me at “just the right time.” Mr. Brooks, she would say: “The EVIL ONE is out and about this morning, and I’m praying for you… so you be good now.” Let me say, she did me a great SERVICE many times. Because, between Amanda and God…. Somebody was reading my mind. God “will SPEAK to us” through any number of ways, people, and events. God has an endless list of “how to get through to us.” He will NEVER give up on us, as long as we never give up on Him.
The fact is… we really don’t need anybody to remind us. God has given us the resources, the gifts, to make those type of determinations; but because of “original sin,” and the fact that He gave us FREE-WILL, we seem determined to dis-obey His teachings.
As Believers, we have a RESPONSIBILITY to “look out for each other.” We can do this in “every day events,” simply by giving a GOOD EXAMPLE to others. Let “others” see us going about “God’s Work.” We are told in Matthew 5:16, – “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
Blessing others involves helping others however we can. We can lighten another’s load by helping them with our time, encouragement, support, prayers, or by providing help with things like babysitting, gardening, mentoring, and tutoring. Galatians 6:2 tells us – Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. And, Hebrews 13:16, ESV Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
So, there you have the formula for “helping others.” ….Blessings…cjlb… 6/27/15.
