“…I want to be a “re-Pete.”

Peter….I will make you a “fisher of men.”

Very few of us ever achieve what we set out to do. I know that I have not.  I can’t help it….I always wanted to be GREAT.  The absolute ONLY great thing I ever did….was marry my wife.  If that were my only measure of SUCCESS, then I’m very successful.  I’ve always wanted to be Governor, too (but no…not in the cards); and flying, like John Wayne in the FLYING LEATHERNECKS (not that either… you actually have to know how to fly).  I’ve always wanted to be a great builder and developer, and wanted to own the Empire State Building (you could take all the buildings that I’ve ever owned – combined – would only fill the first few floors, much less 104).  And of course, every kid wants to be President of the United States, (but the year I thought of running; some guy who was a neighborhood organizer was running; and I knew I couldn’t  best that…now, I wish that I had).  I’ve even dreamed of being Pope (but only the early Popes were allowed to be married).   I mean, I actually gave up my chance of being Pope to marry my bride of 55 years.  But, the facts are this:  I am what I am.  I’m just EXACTLY who God wants me to be…. No more…no less.  Now, if I had to work backwards, and give up everything that I have, every asset, every accomplishment… They (whose they?) could take it all, except for my Bride and My God.  Both of them are for “better-or-worse.”  God gave me by bride, and He gave of Himself.  And, God is not an Indian-giver.  God will not abandon me.  God will never stop loving me.  The Bible says in Psalm 100:3 – “Know that the Lord is God. He made us, and we belong to him; we are his people.”  We didn’t make ourselves. God made each one of us. He created you and designed you and you belong to him.  God’s destiny for your life, and mine, is better than any plan we could ever come up with.  While I have NO COMPLAINTS with the hand I was dealt, I am most joyful (God’s gift) that I settled on the best job of all…. being a “fisher-of-men.”  ….Matthew 4:18-20 Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.   I want to be a “re-Pete.”  …Blessings…cjlb…9/23/14.
