“…I wasn’t a ‘Christian playing the part of an Actor.”  Eh…eh… I was an “Actor playing the part of a Christian…”

With all the ‘current headlines’… regarding sexual harassment, and the sexual exploitation of children, teens, and young adults… it would do well for us to be reminded of the …..Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 17:1-6.

Jesus said to his disciples, “Things that cause sin will inevitably occur, but woe to the person through whom they occur.  It would be better for him if a millstone were put around his neck and he be thrown into the sea than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin.  Be on your guard! If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him.  And if he wrongs you seven times in one day and returns to you seven times saying, ‘I am sorry,’ you should forgive him.”  And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.”  The Lord replied, “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you would say to (this) mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.

I can look back about the time that I turned 50… I purchased my first, personal… bible.  I was awestruck by how the bible seem to address many of the questions that I had as a teenager, sub-adult, and a young adult….  OK…as a Senior Adult…too.  Why wasn’t I paying attention?  The ANSWERES to all of my questions, concerns, and just plain’ole good advice… was right there at my fingertips.  While I didn’t necessarily own my own personal bible… there were several laying around the house….all within my reach.  Not very smart on my part.

This is what people talk about… today… when they refer to ‘Luke-warm Christians.’  Or…those who talk about it… but do nothing.  That was me.  I played the part.  I wasn’t a ‘Christian playing the part of an Actor.”  Eh…eh… I was an “Actor playing the part of a Christian.”

I was like the father, who had spent the day out on the lake fishing with his 6 year old son…and having caught… not the first fish…the young son, asked the father… “Daddy…are we pretending to fish?”

I was PRETENDING to be a Christian.  I was a believer… but not… a FOLLOWER.

Nearly six years ago, I was ‘re-introduced’ to Matthew 28:19 So you must go and make disciples of all nations. Baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And you can be sure that I am always with you, to the very end.”

Once, then… when I realized that Jesus was ‘talking to me,’ and not ‘the other guy,’….I began to read the bible seriously.  I began to take God seriously.  I no longer took my ‘salvation for granted.’  I no longer took God for granted….I was no longer ‘The Great Pretender.”

Now… Not only, do …I believed in Jesus, that He died on the Cross for my sins, that He arose from the dead, but I CONFESS my sins… repent, and am trying, every day, to set my course on Jesus.

…Blessings to all…as we seek to ‘take God seriously.’….cjlb…11/14/2017
