Good, Bad… and Ugly: My Dear departed uncle was my HERO. Others had varying opinions… from A to Z. I chose the high-road. That is my nature. I always looked for the good aspects of his nature… and focused on that; considering ‘it’ as an opportunity. Consequently, I have nothing but positive memories regarding him. I’ll leave the negative thoughts to those whose nature it is…to be negative. I remember him as a very endearing, giving, loving, persuasive, funny, loyal, detailed, forgiving, and…surely…a spiritual man. Enough said.
I have another “old” friend, too… who has had a perpetual cloud over his small and nimble frame for many years, and who… probably… has relieved more widows of their small inheritances than Carter had peanuts. At 85, he’s still ‘kick’n around’ but staying out of trouble, and has, in his advanced years…blended into the woodwork. Age has a way of doing those sorts of things to one’s former-self. But, in his regard, the important fact that remains with me… is; he never took advantage of me, or anyone I personally knew. He’s ALWAYS treated me with kindness and respect. Therefore, again… I choose to take the high-road.
I prefer not to waste my time and energy in having negative thoughts and memories. Does this mean I’m a “push-over?” No… not likely… ask anyone to whom I do business. I’ve trained myself to see only the good in things and in people. I would have missed many good opportunities to improve myself… when listening to the 1000’s of sermons I’ve listened to over the years… if I were to focus on the negative aspects of the sermon provider… rather than the positive aspects of their subject sermon.
Do yourself a favor, and train yourself to see only the good things in people. Don’t waste your time on ….the negatives, and the related gossip. Sure, there are specific details one might keep their eye out for, i.e. …whiskey on one’s breath at 10:30 in the morning. This would be an obvious ‘no-no.’ Or, if you see your boss coming out of a ‘back-alley-dive’ …with a smile on his face…at 10 o’clock in the morning…then…eh…forget everything I’ve said…and… run for your life. Otherwise…keep an open, and trusting mind. Then, of course… think again.
Philippians 4:8-9 – Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
