CONTENTMENT: Not me…NEVER me…. Forget that!
I can’t stand the thought of being CONTENT. To me, it’s almost like giving up, or throwing the towel in, or…eh, Quitting. Contentment means that you’re satisfied with the results, satisfied with your life, your career, your retirement, or the last deal you made for the company. Yeah… you’re just plain ole’happy.
I know… the Bible says in Hebrews 13:5– Let your character be free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you.” And yes… I agree with that, and I also feel that contentment is being satisfied with who you are, and what you know, and where you’re going.
I think Hebrews is talking about being content with “your processions,” in that; you can’t take them with you. I’m talking about having limited knowledge of science, finance, or history… and even the Bible, and surely… life’s journey.
I’m talking about expanding yourself …such that… you can do a better job, be a better friend and co-worker, and to be a better steward of those special Gifts that God has blessed you with. Such Gifts… of Wisdom and Knowledge. And, in order to be a better steward of your intelligence… one must equip themselves to do a better job…for all of mankind.
In so doing, one has to loose-up on some of the contentment factor. We learn in Proverbs 18:15 – An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge. Proverbs 2:10 – For wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
