“…I’m told by some… that I have ‘selective hearing’…”

Image result for caricature of man with "selective hearing."BE QUITE: We all have been told this all through life…some of us, more than others. Sometimes we listen, other times…we tend to “not listen.” Sometime on PURPOSE, because we just “don’t care,” or I suppose…like me… you just didn’t hear it, or didn’t hear it CORRECTLY.

I’m told by some… that I have “selective hearing.” I insist that I don’t, but I do “admit” that I just don’t hear all the “soft-talk.” Possibly, I could use a bionic ear.

Suppose, though, that we did listen, or tried “listening on purpose,” and while doing so, we began to “hear” things that we never heard before. We began to get a better direction and understanding of issues we find important.

Too often, as leaders, we tend to move on a bit fast, and we don’t hear the “warning signs,” that are already in place. Maybe we’re pre-occupied with “being boss;” maybe just the idea of winning at all costs, suddenly costs us everything; when we could have avoided that calamity….if we had been listening.  Psalm 4:4-5 Be angry, and do not sin; ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent.

What excuse do our “national leaders” have for NOT LISTENING? We, as a country, are getting MESSAGES sent to us all the time… everyday… there is some kind of catastrophic issue that has come up, and we don’t seem to take “those issues” seriously…. As if we’re not listening … on purpose.

Then… there is “our communication with God.” Are we listening when He speaks? Are we “paying attention” when God speaks to us. Are we “turning God off?” Do we think that “He is giving us too much SOFT-TALK?” Consider this: if we’re not “hearing when God talks” then we’re NOT LISTENING….and/or…we DON’T CARE. Either way… we are heading towards BIG TROUBLE.

God talks to us through PRAYER. If we are not praying to Him…we not communicating with Him, and we’re not able to listen. We have, therefore …SHUT God out of our lives. If “things are rotten” in our life…nothing is going right…lost our job…lost our family…got into some real BAD habits….then, we BETTER START communicating with God…through PRAYER.

God doesn’t tell us to BE QUITE…He wants us to “talk to HIM. He wants to be part of “every issue” in our life. He want us to “turn to Him; to RELY on Him; to NEED Him, and to LOVE Him. We can “start listening” at ANYTIME. We can “start praying” now. We can CHANGE direction…away from “worldly” directly to GOD….anytime we want to. God’s door is always OPEN.

Jesus Christ removed the barrier between us and God—when He died on the cross for our sins. Our sinful nature separates us from God, and we then find that God has “turned silent.” When we commit our lives to Christ, who is God’s only intercessory; He then gives us the privilege to come before Him. We are told in Hebrews 4:16 – “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

Understand that God now welcomes you into His Heart… and promises to hear us. The Bible says in 1 John 5:14 – “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” Trust in His promises and learn to bring every concern to Him… in prayer. Then…the QUITE TIME… will be over.
