Be Prepared: The Boy Scout Motto…Preparation: Whenever we prepare for a new assignment, new job, a social engagement, or even marriage…. We MUST, or should… go through all of the necessary stages of insuring that such assignment, or opportunity… is successful.
In the reality of life, we began “preparing”…as early as kindergarten… then, elementary, middle, and high school, and later… hopefully… college. These are the beginning stages of preparing for almost any endeavor in life. We study to become proficient in certain aspects of our training, or schooling… such that we might be considered…an expert. As we enter our chosen careers…we sometimes are sent to various specialized schools of training, and the occasional seminar.
If we are entering marriage… very often, our church leaders will require us to go through pre-marital preparation, or counselling… insuring our marriage will stand better odds of success. If we’re sent to a new work assignment, we likely will be sent for specialized training to prepare for that assignment. In today’s ever-changing technology… computers, and smart phones… we are ALWAYS in some sort of training, so that we might be better prepared to undertake the ever-changing technology.
One crucial element… not typically thought about in the process of “PREPRATION”…is…PRAYER.
Without prayer…we’re flirting with failure. As in any endeavor… certainly one of great import… one should ALWAYS seek the guidance… and training, from Our Lord, Jesus Christ. Rather we are seeking guidance in some personal issue, school exams, new job, enough money to pay our bills… or a moral or ethical issue we’re confronting… a marriage contract, a real estate transaction….or even the certain outcome of a popular sporting event…we often…seek the support and guidance of Our Father in Heaven.
PRAYER, then, should be a top priority in our quest to BE PREPARED. John 15:7 – If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. Philippians 4:6 – Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Mark 11:24 – Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
And my favorite… 1 Thessalonians 5:17 – Pray without ceasing.
