Good Ole Honest Abe: How many of us, like Abraham Lincoln, would be a noble example of a man who never hesitated to subordinate his own welfare (his product, deal, career, or company) to the general good of all, and whose career came to its climax through martyrdom. Are you willing to jeopardize everything for the truth of facts?
Well, I’m not sure that even Honest Abe would have chosen martyrdom if he had KNOWN that he was going to be assassinated… and more likely… any of us, would have forgone the visit to the Ford Theater.
But, then…how about Jesus? He KNEW he was going to sacrifice His life for ours. Jesus KNEW His future. He KNEW it all… yet, He moved forward, and for what? For the LOVE of mankind. He LOVED us… and He wanted our LOVE in return. Not much to ask for… but seemingly… not with His reach.
With those thoughts in mind… let me call your ATTENTION to Matthew 15:8-9 – This people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. In vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines human precepts?
With that said, let’s now look at Matthew 15-10-20 – What comes out of the mouth, also comes out of the heart, From the heart comes evil thoughts, murder, adultery, unchastely, theft, false witness, blasphemy. There are what defile a person … but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile.
So the QUESTION begs… Do we use the bible to develop our skill-sets such that we might then… be able to judge others more accurately? Or, do we use the bible to help us recognize our own sins… more accurately? Is the bible a mirror… or a spy glass?
Too often, I think… and myself included … we fail to remember that Jesus gave His life in exchange for our SINS …so that we might have life-everlasting with Him. We go merrily about our daily grind with little thought that… but for a few wisp of a breeze… it could all be over. Thank you Dear Jesus for dying on the cross for me.
Is our job to improve ourselves… or to judge others as to their need for improvement Forgive me Lord… a sinner.
