“…I’ve tasted DEFEAT plenty of times, but never the taste of FAILURE…”

Have you ever been fired? Fallen from grace? Well… I have…five times too many…at least. Man, it’s got my name written all over it. I was fired, or laid off, about five times….As a TV Cameraman, as a Retail Sales Clerk; as a Lab Technician; as VP & Corporate Controller; and VP & Corporate Administrator.

I’ve tasted DEFEAT plenty of times, but never the taste of failure.   There’s a distinct difference. One measurement of character is how one handles defeat. If one runs out the back door, with their tail between their legs, then they, likely have failed. If they walked out the front door, with a smile on their face, then it’s just another “setback”…bad as it may seem.

When I was fired as a TV Cameraman, I had a friend call a major stockholder and got my job back…only to quit a week later. As a Retail Sales Clerk, I immediately went out… and got a shoe shine, a haircut, lunch, and found a better job the next day. As VP & Controller, I took the $25K severance pay, and launched a career in real estate that was the basis of a major career change…one that has forever effected my life. As a VP & Corporate Administrator… I took a short breather, and then “re-focused” on my own business and re-doubled my efforts, my income, and my sense of enjoyment…in the first year.

I turned all of my DEFEATS, or “set-backs”…. into VICTORIES. Joshua 7:1-2 tells us… And the LORD said to Joshua, “Do not fear or be dismayed; take all the fighting men with you, and arise, go up to Ai; see, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, and his people, his city, and his land; and you shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king; only its spoil and its cattle you shall take as booty for yourselves; lay an ambush against the city, behind it.”

And, if that doesn’t get your attention, than try…2 Corinthians 4:8-10 – We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.

…Blessings…cjlb… 3/25/16
