“…Just because we might be focusing on our personal satisfactions, is not wrong in itself. Motivation only becomes an issue when we are not honest with ourselves about why we are doing the things we do…”

MOTIVES…Good, or Bad:  What are our “real motives” for what we do?  Show me your motive and I’ll show you the odds of your success.  Are we motivated by selfishness, fear, or lust?   And in contrast… competition, challenge, or money?  Or… are we motivated by the SELF-LESS-NESS?

That being…to further the cause of the corporate good, or that of the collective individuals.  I’ve heard it said… show me what a many spends his money on, and I’ll show you the content of his heart.  What is the content of our Heart?  God gives grace to those who exemplify His Motive.  Meaning… if we follow the word of God, and abide by His teachings…then God will extend to us His special Graces… designed specifically for us;

Paul tells us about rewards in Ephesians 6:8 –  “The Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does” This is not talking just about salvation, but about rewards… which is in addition to our salvation. Paul describes the judgment as a fire that tests the quality of every person’s work.   Also… as said in 1 Corinthians 3:15“If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up, he will lose it, but he will still be saved.”

So what is the right motivation?  1 Thessalonians 2:4 …says, “Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts”

Just because we might be focusing on our personal satisfactions, is not wrong in itself. Motivation only becomes an issue when we are not honest with ourselves about why we are doing the things we do.   God KNOWS…When we give the outward appearance of obeying God but our hearts are hard.   We, too often… are deceiving ourselves and others, too…when our motivation is ‘self-centered.’  The only way we can operate from pure motives is when we “walk in the Spirit” (Galatians 5:16, 25). When we allow Him to control every part of us, then our desire is to please Him and not ourselves.

So the question is…do we follow the Great Leader, Teacher, and Motivator… Jesus Christ the Lover, and Savior… of all of Mankind… or the great deceiver, tempter of evil… whose motivation is to ‘suck us into’ the sinfulness of ever-lasting “bloody hell?”

The choice is ours to make…. Heaven, or hell.
