Closet Husband, Closet employee, Closet friend…and the worst….Closet Christian. What does it take to come out of the closet? Some have difficulty coming out of the closet for a variety of reasons. Anything from a lifestyle stand point; or accepting responsibility as a spouse and provider. Others never show their TRUE MOTIVES in cultivating friendships, and they hone that style by the fakery of net-working. And then, there are employees who NEVER put forth their real skill-sets as, they do just enough to get by; thereby depriving their employer, co-workers, and their families …the true value of their abilities, not to mention that they are stunting their long-range career path… and the growth potential of personal relationships.
The worst part of this smoke-screen… is the process by which some people… deny God. They attend Church… mouthing the songs, passing the plate…etc… but failing to forgive, failing to love, failing to be compassionate, and failing to be a servant to mankind… much less to God. They put on a front for those around them, but they, always, fail to FOOL God.
All of these scenarios are just a few examples of those choosing to live in the closet. When we reconcile with Our Savior, then reconciling with the “other closet-issues” of this life on earth… are a bi-product of facing God. Coming out of the closet, will open the door for an honest relationship with all “other facets” of life.
Some of us are itching for a reality check… 1 Thessalonians 2:5-8 gives us one… You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed—God is our witness. We were not looking for praise from people, not from you or anyone else, even though as apostles of Christ we could have asserted our authority. Instead, we were like young children among you. Just as a nursing mother cares for her children, so we cared for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God …but our lives as well.
Who are we (that would be you and me) sharing our life with… is “it” the real me…the life that God made for “just for me,” or the one that the “world made for me?”
Just for the record… I speak from experience…as, I lived a “closet life” for some 45 years, or so… until, I finally realized that God was talking directly to me…in Matthew 28:19… “Go ye therefore, teaching all nations, and baptizing them in the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.” I lived in a “spiritual closet”…never sharing “God’s Word” with anyone…anytime…anywhere. But…thanks be to God…I escaped from “the closet,” and now…I’ve got “you” to talk too.
I continue to seek shelter…surely…but it’s under the “umbrella of Our Lord, God, Jesus Christ”…rather than… the “worldly closet …of darkness.”
