DRIED-UP and OUT: Are you all dried-up and about to ship out? If you feel like you are, then you probably are. What’s it all mean? I’m implying that one may have “run out of steam;” and he’s the only one that doesn’t know it. Their idea factory has gone out of business. Their engine (energy) has peaked. Maybe their speed-up has slowed down. Their leadership-appealed has faded. Now… what to do? Take a sabbatical; a short vacation; attend a motivational seminar; heck, maybe a divorce; or a new job, early retirement …. or just a change. Any or all of the above. The problem is that you are no-longer a leader, and you won’t admit it. I’ve seen this happen many times, and seldom do they recover. It’s like a plane going into a tail-spin. A good leader will plan ahead for his leadership role to diminish. He will have an exit strategy that’s pulled into place at the right time. And, if he doesn’t, then he was destined to fail anyway; as it was just a matter of time. Take Jerry Sinefeld for an example…he pulled out of his very successful TV series, because he realized he was “on-top,” but was running out of steam. And, not a single show since has been successful. I’m not suggesting that a weakened Leader should give up, and not fight; rather, I’m implying that his odds for recovery to his “old-self” are pitifully low. This posting is not addressing “leadership recovery,” rather, recognizing when to hold and when to fold. My Motto: Be prepared for anything, anytime, anywhere, at any cost. Proverbs 16:18 – Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. ….Blessings…cjlb..8/10/13
