“…Life is like a banana……… eat it today because it will be gone tomorrow……”

Where do you want to be in, say, 25 years?

You know….25 years is not that far away. For you 35 year olds, it would be when you’re 60 years old; approaching retirement age.   For you 25 year olds… well, then, you’d only be 50 years old.   For me….um, I would have just turned 100 years old….. Approaching biblical proportions.  Is that even possible?

The bigger and better question is this:  It’s not where do you want to be; rather, it should be: what do you want to do during the next 25 years?   Do you want to spend the next 25 years making up for something that you did today?   If that’s the case, then, forget that… that would be impossible.   Life is like a banana; eat it today because it will be gone tomorrow… as in rotten.  We don’t get but just one chance to live today.   Why not make the best of it?   Why not make it count?   Each day we live, accumulates to our 25 years….to a life-time of our allotted days.

We can’t un-do the bad, but we can capitalize on the good that we do.   Life, as we know it, is only temporary…. But eternity, well it’s forever.  Just think…. If we robbed a bank tomorrow; we’d NEVER live it down.   We could never offset the repercussions of such a dubious deed.   On the other hand, if we donated our “just won” $25 Million Lottery prize, to St. Jude’s Children Hospital…. Well that would go down in the history books for all of time.   How would you like to be remembered?

Well, the likelihood of either one of those deeds befalling us…. Is one in 25 million, maybe…a lot, anyway.  But, just think, there is a lot that could happen between those two ends of that spectrum that would not be as spectacular as either of those.  Things that we would not be so proud of, and many more that we could be very proud… the CHOICE would be ours.

We can make a decision to live our life… the next 25 years, in such fashion as to gain the ultimate prize in life, or the ultimate booby-prize. Revelations 21:7-8 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.  But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

We can contribute to a life of pleasantness to those around us, or one of very unpleasantness.  We can bring joy to those around us, or we can bring misery.  We can exude happiness, or sadness.  Why not live in a manner that not only makes everybody happy, but one that would cause the Heavens to rejoice.  Why not leave a “generational gift” to your children?  The life that we live today, is the life we leave to our children. What we do in our life will affect the next generation…. Our children….our heritage.

When we honor our God, we HONOR our children; setting them up…to HONOR GOD.  Ephesians 4:29-32 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
