“…Marrying the ‘right person’ might, for some, be a once in a lifetime opportunity…”

Kairos (καιρός) is an ancient Greek word meaning the right or opportune moment (the supreme moment). The ancient Greeks had two words for time, chronos and kairos. While the former refers to chronological or sequential time, the latter signifies a time in between, a moment of indeterminate time in which something special happens.

For most of us, we have a special moment in time when we can “seize the opportunity,” that might only come once in a lifetime… or for others; that ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ opportunity might come any number of times.

Marrying the ‘right person’ might, for some,  may be … a once in a lifetime opportunity.  Seemingly… getting married might come any number of times for some… but marrying the ‘right person’ might come just once…or SHOULD be.  Certain ‘career opportunities’ only come along once, maybe twice.  Buying a ‘certain house,’ or a ‘certain car’ might SEEM to come only once or twice, but probably more often.

For me…I’m so blessed.  I’ve had so many “once in a lifetime” opportunities… I cannot count them.  And, YES, there are exceptions, but not the type that have any effect on one’s day-to-day life…except  maybe… their ‘sense of wants’ might not be fully satisfied on a given day…big deal, eh?  And TRUE… These events, or ‘special opportunities’… are very often limited to a disproportionate portion of society because of economic or cultural limitations; which… is just an unfortunate fact of life.

We must be on the ALERT, so that we don’t miss that …“once in a lifetime opportunity.”  Because it may be the ‘opportunity’ that affects where we spend eternity.  None of know when that “certain knock on the door” might come.  If we are not prepared to react immediately… then we might miss that ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ opportunity…. which God only knows…when.

Like a thief in the night – Matthew 24:42-44 tells us“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.  But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.   So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

It is, therefore, imperative that we (that would be you…and me) stay on full alert…never giving satan a ‘foot-hold,’ and thusly…being able to ‘recognize’ that KNOCK on the DOOR.  Beware of false prophets….because, they buy their clothes at the same store we do.
