BEST-FOOT-FORWARD: Most of us only have one opportunity to make a “good first impression.” The job interview; the first date; the Mortgage Company; future father-in-law; etc. When we blow the opportunity; we’re pretty much out of business…no job; no bride, no house, no Father-In-Law. But, with the Great Teacher, Leader, and Motivator…. well…we always get another chance at bat. We always get another opportunity to put our best foot forward. He wants us to succeed…never to fail. Proverbs 19:21 – Many are the pleas in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.
When we “make mistakes,” miss-speak, or the more popular “flub,” of today… EXAGGRATION… it would be the RARE occasion that the impact could be REVERSED. What’s done is done, the milk is spilt, the cookie has crumbled, and no one can put “Humpty-Dumpty” back together again. Ask Brian Williams, and many other “flub-artists.”
We are taught by our own government to exaggerate….as, every day they issue statistics that are so “warped” of truth, that “no one” knows what to believe. But, that’s another story.
Heck…I’ve done it myself. I’ve actually done 40 push-ups, and have clear memory of having said, later, that I’d done 50…after-all… they’re close enough…right? WRONG. And, I know I’ve done other exaggeration’s; clearly not justifiable, but also harming no one… but ME.
Some “mega-rich” people (no names here) may be worth 950 million, but “openly claim” it to be 2 Billion. A nationally known doctor who claimed to have operated on an 8 year old girl (implying that he saved her life), when it has just been revealed that he did not operate on her at all.” My point is that we all are guilty of the “exaggeration syndrome,” most all of which, is HARMLESS jibber-jabber. We’ve all “said things,” that we wish we could “take back.”
There is a “cute story” going around the internet, where a young lad goes into neighborhood pharmacy asking to buy a small box of candy, a medium, and a large. The Pharmacist quizzed the boy as to why. The boy answered that he wanted one size for each level of “how far he could go” with his date that night. Little did he know that when he arrived at the girl’s house… her father was the Pharmacist? Surely… he wishes he could take back “his explanation.”
God, on the other hand… knows our heart. He is the “forgiving God.” He is the God of “many chances.” He is the God of 7 times 70. He is the God of “love.” Does He condone “mistakes of the tongue?” Of course not. That would be nonsense. But… God does have a “plan for us,” where He wants us to be happy, joyful, and successful. Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
