Solomon, in his old age, wrote in…Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 – For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to LAUGH; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing…
Fun is not escaping from reality… rather, it is clinging to it. According to Colossians 3:17, we should also give thanks to God through Jesus Christ for the fun and entertainment He provides. Someone once pointed out that “recreation” means to “re-create” or “renew.” God allows us this time to be renewed and to grow in our faith. James tells us, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows” (James 1:17). Fun and entertainment are gifts of God, given so that we might come closer to Him. We should remember this when we are planning our recreation and remember to thank God for such a good and perfect gift.
The thing to remember is…. Rather at work, at home, in recreation, or in a church environment… having FUN is normal, and too… a GIFT from God. That said; we have only to remember to “thank God” for our fun times. Have fun in the ‘glory of God’ is certainly… one of God’s purposes… for us.
Another thought… NEVER have fun… at the expense of someone else… not having fun.
Have FUN….and, blessings…cjlb…. 10/2/2017
