“…Now here is some important ADVICE… that you likely have never had SUGGESTED to you.  It’s called FASTING…”

DECISIONS – DECISIONS:  What to do about this, or that, or the other?  There is always something IMPORTANT laying on the table… a hard decision.

For me: Just recently, I’ve had to decide about several important things.  1) What to do about ‘flood insurance.’  Having recently been caught up in some severe flood issues, with ‘no flood insurance,’ ….I’ve come to realize it’s something I need to have.  2) I’ve, just in the last 10 days, had to replace the HVAC system in our house on the coast.  After 17 years… I know it’s about seen its last days.  Cost on the coast is $10K.  For the same system, inland 100 miles…$5K.  Go figure.  3) Then there is the plan (now executed) to buy a new pontoon.  What does a 77 year-old couple need with a pontoon?  Oh… I know.  The Bride wants one.  End of discussion. For me… all BIG decisions.  All requiring serious thought, and justification…. And, prayerfully so.

Think about this….for most of us…the big decisions that we make today WILL affect us for the rest of our lives…..for good or for bad.  Decisions like:  purchase of a new vehicle, or house.  The idea of ‘a big career move.’  Decisions regarding a spousal death.  For some… divorce, and (ugh) remarriage.  All…very big decisions… affective all of the foreseeable future.

That said, then… we must make sure that we don’t screw our lives up with bad decisions.  You’ve heard the saying…we can pay the Piper now, or later…either way….WE PAY.  Don’t, though, rely totally on your own ability to handle such an important task. For BIG DECISIONS… seek an outside opinion.

First… LISTEN to what your Spouse says.  We have to live with our decisions…and we have to live with our spouses.  Another ‘good ear’ would be your Minister, your Mentor, your Parents, and that inter-voice that keeps you on the right road.  Also…be on the look-out for the serpent.  Don’t give satan a ‘foothold.’

Back to the ‘inter-voice.’  That little voice you hear in the inner-depths of you mind… is more likely to be the ‘Holy Spirit.’  God has a way of putting His 2-Cents into the mix…. sometimes, or most times… we don’t even realize he’s talking to us.  So, my real POINT here… is… have a CONVERSATION with God.  We can do this through… PRAYER.

Now here is some ADVICE… that you likely have never had SUGGESTED to you.  It’s called FASTING.  That would be… going without.  For most, it is thought to be going without food.  That is to say… go hungry, for some period of time.  Usually 24 or 36 hours….water only.  This fasting process will ‘clear the cobwebs’ out of you head.  Fasting will give you plenty of room to make that ‘big decision.’

I would expand the FASTING idea to mean… “Anything” that is really important to you; and ‘giving it up,’ would be considered… a really big sacrifice.  Just use your imagination.

Fasting is a ‘good way’ to start a DIET, too!  Whenever I get really serious about losing some weight… I’ll fast for about 5 days straight…toast and water…only.

In ‘fasting for God’s intervention’… we are told in….Second Samuel 12:15-17 “And the Lord afflicted the child that Uriah’s wife bore to David, and he became sick.  David therefore sought God on behalf of the child. And David fasted and went in and lay all night on the ground.  And the elders of his house stood beside him, to raise him from the ground, but he would not, nor did he eat food with them.”
